China Press reported on 4 August 2025 on a statement by NZSK partner Khoo Ai Theng (Lawyer Khoo) about the United States tariff of up to 19% on some Malaysian exports. She said the tariff hits local small and medium enterprises hard, even though they account for more than 38% of GDP and 70% of jobs, and shows how heavily Malaysia relies on a few export markets. She called on the government to set up a two-year Export Resilience Support Mechanism for affected businesses, covering export rebates and logistics subsidies, low-interest financing and credit guarantees, grants to reach new markets, and help with branding and technology, with a special task force led by MITI to assess the damage and direct help to where it is needed most. She also asked for support to reach start-ups, young exporters and cross-border e-commerce sellers, including a fast track for young exporters and matching funds to help small teams join international trade fairs.
